From Complexity to Clarity: Our New Approach to Reporting for Your Low Energy Refurb

One Year of Resolve Sustainability Consulting: Improving Our Reporting

It has been one year since Resolve Sustainability Consulting metamorphosed from an idea into a physical consulting company. Since then, it has grown into a reliable and trustworthy partner for developers and homeowners seeking to make their properties more sustainable.

One of the challenges we have faced is how to present information to clients. This can be especially difficult when clients are at different stages of their sustainability journey, with varying levels of understanding, and of course, different degrees of support required. Video calls have always been a staple and will continue to be so for general consulting and advice. Similarly, any questions that require a written report are tailored specifically to the client and their needs.

Our Passive House analysis has proven invaluable, but presenting the results has sometimes made it difficult to fully portray the substance and reasoning behind our findings. This often meant that analysis risked floating independently of both cause and consequence.

As we move towards PAS2035 certification, Resolve is bringing the level of accountability that is standard in the public sector to our private homeowner clients. To achieve this, we are encouraging clients to follow our new, streamlined reporting methodology.

The Reporting Framework

Reports 1 to 3 will be compulsory, ensuring a thorough and structured look into each project and its nuances:

1. Project Assessment
Outlines the scope of the project, combining desk-based and on-site research. We also identify the client’s targets and evaluate potential risks based on an initial high-level analysis.

2. Improvement Evaluations
A detailed analysis report for medium- and high-complexity projects. Using Passive House principles, we evaluate a wide range of interventions against criteria outlined by the client—typically cost, energy savings, disruption, and more. An easy-to-read summary supports discussions on which interventions are realistic.

3. Medium-Term Improvement Plan
This is where the strategy takes shape. From insulation and airtightness to PV systems and beyond, we create a conclusive plan for achieving the client’s project goals. The report also addresses the critical challenge of scheduling.

Reports 4 and 5 are highly recommended but not essential. Their focus is less on design and more on implementation, ensuring that the client’s ambitions are successfully delivered on site:

4. Installation Report
Provides guidance for selecting suitable tradespeople and includes evidence checkpoints at key stages of progress. This ensures construction stays on track and highlights the certificates and registrations required from each trade.

5. Post-Installation Report
Acts as a final checklist for handing over the project to the client, confirming the proper installation of all chosen interventions. It also suggests commissioning and maintenance plans. Finally, it includes a one-year post-occupancy evaluation to review performance and outcomes.

At Resolve, we don’t step away once the reports are complete. We remain available throughout the build process to answer questions and provide reassurance. This support may take the form of additional drawings, site visits, or tailored guidance to ensure your project stays on track and your sustainability goals are met.

If you’d like to learn more about our services, please feel free to get in touch. We’d be happy to discuss your project as well as the contents of our reports. At Resolve, we understand that every client is at a different stage of their sustainability journey, and we’re here to provide the clarity and guidance you need to move forward with confidence.
